Product Viability Assessment

Test the commercial logic before committing serious time or capital.

A promising product idea is not automatically a viable product opportunity. C&S examines the customer problem, available demand evidence, competitive position, pricing potential and major commercial risks before you proceed to supplier sourcing, samples or inventory.

Every assessment is scoped individually. Tell us about the opportunity and we'll provide a tailored quote.

A worked example — each opportunity is scored on its own evidence.

What you'll receive
A commercially grounded read on the opportunity.

Every assessment ends in a clear written recommendation. Here's what goes into it.

01

Customer & problem assessment

Who the intended customer is, how important the problem is, and whether the proposed product addresses a meaningful reason to buy.

02

Demand & competitor evidence

Available market signals, competing products, customer feedback and evidence that buyers already spend money in the category.

03

Proposed product positioning

The target customer, the product promise, the competitive distinction and an appropriate place in the market.

04

Target retail & wholesale pricing

Preliminary price positioning for direct, retail and wholesale channels, based on customer expectations and comparable products.

05

Preliminary margin feasibility

Whether the proposed selling price appears able to support product cost, freight, channel margins and other major variable costs.

06

Compliance, freight & complexity risks

Major issues that could make the opportunity expensive, slow, difficult to supply or commercially unsuitable.

07

Proceed, revise or stop recommendation

A clear written conclusion supported by the available evidence — including the most important next step if the opportunity should continue.

Who this is for
Designed for businesses facing a real product decision.
  • An established brand considering a new physical product
  • A retailer or wholesaler investigating a category or range gap
  • A business receiving repeated customer requests for a product
  • A founder improving an existing product with documented customer problems
  • A business evaluating whether an opportunity is strong enough to begin sourcing

Pre-revenue projects may still qualify

Applicants should provide meaningful evidence — customer interviews, enquiries, pre-orders, retailer interest, community feedback or demand for comparable products — rather than relying on personal enthusiasm alone.

Scope
What this assessment does not include.

The Product Viability Assessment is an early commercial decision service. Unless separately agreed in writing, it does not include manufacturer sourcing, supplier introductions, engineering or industrial design, sample procurement, laboratory testing, legal advice, certification approval, production management or a complete supplier audit.

If the opportunity passes the assessment, C&S can discuss whether a separate next-stage engagement is appropriate. No further service is automatically required.

How it works
Four steps, scoped to the opportunity.
01

Initial fit review

You provide information about your business, customers, product concept, evidence, commercial objectives and constraints.

02

Scope & quotation

C&S reviews the complexity and confirms the assessment scope, the information required, timing and a tailored fee.

03

Evidence assessment

C&S examines the customer problem, demand, competitors, positioning, pricing, preliminary margins and major execution risks.

04

Written recommendation

You receive a documented proceed, revise or stop conclusion, with the reasoning and the recommended next action.

Timing is confirmed in the quotation — we don't promise a fixed turnaround before we've seen the opportunity.

FAQ
Common questions.
What does the assessment cost?

Every opportunity is different. The fee depends on product complexity, the quality of existing information, the market and the evidence required. Submit your product details to receive a tailored quotation.

Will you find manufacturers for me?

Manufacturer sourcing and supplier introductions are not included in this initial assessment. The purpose is to decide whether the commercial opportunity is strong enough to justify that next investment.

Do I need to be selling the product already?

No. However, pre-revenue applicants should have meaningful customer, market or competitor evidence rather than relying only on personal enthusiasm.

What will I receive?

A written assessment covering the customer problem, demand and competition, proposed positioning, preliminary pricing and margin feasibility, major risks and a clear proceed, revise or stop recommendation.

Will C&S approve regulatory compliance?

No. C&S can identify major apparent compliance risks, but the assessment is not legal advice, certification or regulatory approval. Specialist review or laboratory testing may be required later.

Will every enquiry be accepted?

No. C&S may decline projects that lack sufficient information, realistic commercial parameters or an appropriate fit with its capabilities.
