Getting a baby to sleep is the whole battle. Keeping them asleep while you go somewhere is where it falls apart. You time the drive so they nod off, then you arrive — and to get them out you have to lift, jostle and re-settle them onto whatever's there. Nine times out of ten, they wake. The picnic gets cut short, the campsite afternoon unravels, and everyone pays for it.
So parents plan their whole day around a sleep cycle, or simply don't go. The thing standing between them and a normal outing is one awkward, wake-the-baby transfer.
Don't disturb their sleep to move them. Move the whole bassinet — baby still sleeping inside — from the car to the rug to the campsite, and set it back down.

A note on safety & standards. Infant sleep products are safety-critical and tightly regulated. Any bassinet like this would have to be designed, tested and certified to the mandatory Australian safety standards (ACCC / AS NZS) before it could be sold, and used in line with current safe-sleep guidance and always with appropriate supervision. The carry, the frame and the fold are being worked up as a concept. Because this is a regulated infant product, the gate is higher than usual: before anything advances, the design has to be provably able to meet the mandatory safety standards and pass independent testing. Portability is the point — but safety and compliance are the price of entry, and we treat them that way.
